What is an Effective Rate Calculator?

Processor pricing is deliberately hard to compare — a low headline percentage can hide fat per-item, monthly, and assessment fees. The effective rate cuts through it: total everything you actually paid, divide by what you processed, and you get the single percentage that lets you line up any two providers on equal terms.

Pull the fee total and volume from one monthly statement, add your transaction count for a per-sale cost, and you have the number that matters when you're shopping quotes or deciding whether it's time to switch.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What is my effective rate?

It's the total of every fee your processor charged over a period divided by the total sales volume you processed, expressed as a percentage. Because it rolls percentage fees, per-transaction fees, monthly fees, and assessments into one number, it's the fairest way to compare processors.

Which fees should I include?

All of them. Take the fee total straight off your monthly statement — percentage discount, authorization and per-item fees, monthly gateway or PCI fees, and any assessments or surcharges. Leaving any out understates your real cost.

Why is my effective rate higher than the quoted rate?

Quoted rates usually name only the percentage. Fixed per-transaction fees, monthly charges, and card-network assessments pile on top, so the blended effective rate you actually pay is almost always higher — sometimes markedly so on low average tickets.
